I’m feeling the Snow White vibes looking at the photos in this post! It’s time for another section of the Pale Girl Diaries, and this time we’re going bold. I wanted to keep building on this series because it’s been really successful so far! So in this post I have six red lipsticks for fair skin that will hopefully help you find your perfect shade and formula.
When I’m looking for a red lipstick, I want longevity and pigment. I haven’t found a sheer red lipstick that I’ve fallen in love with (if you have a recommendation you think will change my mind, throw it my way!) so I tend to stick to what I know. In my opinion, a liquid lipstick is your best option for rocking a red lip, so there’s quite a few of those in here. I’ve also included two traditional lipsticks for those of you who aren’t into a liquid formula.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – American Doll
As the name states, this is the red you’d expect Marilyn Monroe to wear. It’s a brighter, neutral red (I’d describe it almost as a poppy shade) which looks really good on my fair skin. It’s more of a moussey formula, and I find that I have to reapply a lot in the centre. If you’re okay with keeping your lip in your purse, then don’t let that scare you! I used this for my Harley Quinn Halloween costume, and if you aren’t eating or drinking a lot, it holds up. (Sephora)
MAC – Ruby Woo
Well, you knew it had to be on here. When it comes to red lipsticks for fair skin (or any skin, for that matter) Ruby Woo will always make the list. It’s your perfect retro red in a matte formula that isn’t as drying as a liquid lipstick. I personally still find different formulas more comfortable, but this is a low maintenance red. It doesn’t bleed, and it gives that classic look. This lipstick has been a go to red for years. (Mac)
Kylie Cosmetics – Mary Jo K
Such a gorgeous shade on fair skin. It has pink/blue undertones to it, which make it really pop if you’re super fair. This colour will not budge either, making it absolutely perfect for dates or nights out. I find Kylie’s formula to be the least drying (her formula was also represented in my Nude Lipsticks for Fair Skin) and the most comfortable to wear for long periods of time. (Kylie Cosmetics)
Kylie Cosmetics – Merry (Boujee)
This shade was originally part of the Christmas collection (hence the packaging) but it’s now been renamed and included in her permanent collection. This is a perfect choice for a darker red that doesn’t pull super vampy on fair skin. It’s more neutral than Mary Jo K, and has less blue in it. It makes the lips look really full and beautiful. (Kylie Cosmetics)
NARS – Cruella
Deeper than Ruby Woo, Cruella is a really pretty shade for another low maintenance red. I believe this is one of Taylor Swift’s regular colours, as she favours the NARS pencil formula. I like this because it’s easy to throw in a bag with no need for a lipliner because of its shape. It is almost non-drying on the lips, and is a lot less dry than MAC’s matte formula. A classic bombshell red. (Sephora)
Kylie Cosmetics – Dancer
A burgundy red, this one is the most different of the formulas I’ve shown you – it’s a metal! I like to apply this over either Mary Jo or Merry/Boujee. It’s pretty on its own as well, but it’s more sheer. The red glitter in this shade really makes it sparkle and catch the light, and it just makes for a more interesting lip. If you haven’t tried a metal before, I’d recommend this one because it isn’t too in your face. (Kylie Cosmetics)
Those are my winners in red lipsticks for fair skin! I hope you found a statement colour to bring out your inner 50’s starlet. Be sure to check out the other posts I have in the Pale Girl Diaries, and the rest of my beauty posts while you’re there. Let me know what blogposts you want to see next!
